Nepali rural women: growing risk of conflict with wildlife.

Human-wildlife conflict in the Bardiya communities
Women living in the villages bordering the Bardiya National Park are increasingly exposed to conflicts with wildlife. Their daily tasks, such as collecting fodder and firewood, take them into the forests, where encounters with tigers and other wild animals are common. This is compounded by the phenomenon of labor migration, which has shifted agricultural and domestic responsibilities primarily onto women, forcing them to work in high-risk areas.
Fatal incidents often occur during subsistence activities such as cutting grass or grazing livestock in wooded and transitional zones, where human and animal presence overlap. Although the conservation of tigers in Nepal is a globally celebrated success, the risk is growing for rural communities, particularly for women who depend on forests for their daily survival. Furthermore, women are often absent from the institutions that determine conservation policies.

Have been on the road for the past 2 months. Haven’t really been taking pictures, just capturing memories on my phone here and there. Like this one from Bardiya National Park in southern Nepal.
These are captive asiatic elephants that work for the national park, they’re bringing in food from the forest to feed the other 2 elephants that work in the park.

On our way into the jungles. Was just so excited to watch the beautiful moments of everyday life outside the window.

Morning light filters through the forest canopy. Bursts of sunshine form rays around a lone photographer, standing in the mist. Unaware of whether or not the tigers might be near.

Photo taken by my wife Shellie. She's my favourite person in the world. She makes everything better.

I live in Australia so this particular species of kingfisher was always a bit of a celebrity for me. "Common" it may be in other parts of the world, but not where I call home.

Have wanted to see one up close for years. Have only had fleeting glances from a distance in the Himalayas. Until now. This guy sat nicely on a stick in the middle of the river for us. We drifted over in the rafts.

I had no idea they were so tiny!
