Oh man, all my angst, & look what I spotted when I checked the mail. I actually have lots of these, Banksia Spinulosa (Hairpin Banksia), but few have such red hairpins. It was so lovely I had to share! Ain't it a beaut? 😁

No scent, but an important local wildlife food source. I'm on Darug/Gundungurra country (spellings vary), referred to here:

Banksia

I recently started taking photos of some of my favourite plants (there are many!) with some very basic studio lighting. This might even be the start of a whole project/series. It's fun to explore new ways of shooting when daylight hours don't allow for any creative outings.

#Banksia serrata is excellent as a large potted plant. The rough stem, serrated bright green leaves and the huge flowering cones (smelling of butterscotch) that persist with large seed follicles.

I get lots of banksias, notably serrata, ericifolia, & spinulosa, each a much loved food source for local wildlife. Their flowers (see wiki article for pic) supply nectar and later seeds to all sorts of creatures.
