I hate fireworks, especially the ones sold and used by the general public. Spending most of your NYs under a bed with a terrified pet changes your perspective somewhat. Glad the Netherlands has finally banned them and hope the rest of the EU follows. People are so unconsciously selfish, my few minutes of pleasure are more important than terrifying the animals that I live amongst.

The historic Vondelkerk in Amsterdam βcannot be saved,β authorities said early Thursday as firefighters continued to battle a massive blaze that erupted shortly after midnight during New Yearβs celebrations. The fire has fully engulfed the 154-year-old church, causing parts of the tower and roof to collapse, forcing evacuations, and cutting electricity to roughly 90 nearby homes.

It's not even midnight on the US East Coast yet and rotwitted asshats are already assaulting me and my poor dog with fireworks.
#Amsterdam, the #Netherlands β A major fire broke out in the Vondelkerk just before 1:00 a.m. The fire is mainly raging at the top of the church tower and can be seen from quite a distance.
And the Fireworks begin.
If you spend money on Fireworks to launch them from your garden and then don't pick up the trash you leave on the street after they land, you're a piece of shit.
... actually, if you just are lighting fireworks from your garden / the exit of your house in ANY neighbourhood, you're an irresponsible piece of shit.
The number of accidents, injuries, and deaths that occur each "new year" because of people like this is stupid and 100% avoidable. This includes animal casualties, and the constant suffering some pets go through because of your explosions.
Celebrate the new year in a more quiet, less polluting and less lethal way. Twats.
To animals, fireworks are just loud, terrifying explosions that trigger their fight or flight instincts. Each year, countless cats, dogs, horses, and wildlife are left confused, disoriented, injured, or even DEAD π‘
