10-Year Anniversary
A Good-Bye

It’s been a full decade ago that I started working on new songs which later became the 12-track album ‘Make Me Do’.

Said album, three EPs, and several singles later I just now closed my Bandcamp account. What was once a great tool for artists to release and sell their music, suffered from being sold twice (to the gaming giant Epic and, a year later, to Songtradr, ‘the largest music licensing platform in the world’ (Wikipedia)¹. In the process, half of the staff were laid off².

Luckily there are successors, some of which even follow a cooperative business model: Mirlo, Bandwagon, and jam.coop.

It was a somewhat sad moment to close Bandcamp still — leaving Facebook®, Instagram®, Twitter®, Bluesky®, and YouTube® were solely happy moments in contrast — but at the same time, new and promising doors opened.

So — here’s to looking forward (and looking back to ten years I wouldn’t have wanted to miss nonetheless)!
