Last night [July 17] there was a vigil in Cincinnati to protest 🧊 [ICE] detaining former chaplain Imam Ayman Soliman.
After the vigil concluded, a separate march took place across the Roebling Bridge into Covington. During that march, one NKY FTC member and multiple community members were arrested by Covington PD.
They are all facing first degree rioting charges, which is a Class D felony punishable by up to 5 years in jail.

Students, the press, non-profit organizers, and community members were brutalized by Covington police for peacefully marching for immigrant rights. The police retaliation was unprecedented, including shooting rubber bullets, smoke grenades, tasers, pepper spray, and K9s. Many of those arrested were protecting others and trying to get out of harm's way; it's our turn to help them as they are in harm's way.
Firestorm BooksNext Saturday we're teaming up with our buddies at Appalachian Medical Solidarity and the Asheville Bail Fund to host a discussion on abolition through the lens of healthcare with Dr. Ronica Mukerjee, co-editor of "All This Safety is Killing Us."
This discussion will examine the book as well as the impacts of over policing and deadly conditions at the Buncombe County Detention Center on our own community's health and well-being. Copies of "All This Safety Is Killing Us" will be available during the event, along with opportunities to support local grassroots efforts toward health justice. We hope to see you there!
