I agree with all the discussion and think this misunderstanding about evolution to #avirulence comes from a confusion between #virulence (an evolutionary concept involving host fitness), #lethality (related to the host), #mortality (measured at the population level), and #pathogenicity (at the cellular level).
We tried to clarify this with @mtsofonea in our review on the evolution of #SarsCoV2 virulence.
