Why do women experience #aging-related diseases differently than men? A new study shows that with age, genes on the inactive X chromosome can reactivate – potentially influencing conditions like #dementia and #autoimmunity: http://go.tum.de/987255

Silent X chromosome awakens with age

In aging female mice, genes on the second X chromosome become active again. This could be an explanation for sex differences in aging humans regarding disease.

The issue with those stories are, those are anecdotally.

Maybe beside the mediation she is:
using asthma or blood pressure medications. Maybe statins. Maybe the vaccine as she didn’t wanted a re-infection, maybe she had luck - as #autoimmunity after infections is actually common and often resolves 🤷‍♂️

So her communication is shit. But she is doing #sport not #medicine.

The one writing then story without using its brain is the issue. The stubborn physicians are an issue.

Research finds potential “molecular mimics” behind COVID-induced autoimmune disease

Scientists used advanced data analysis and machine learning to identify the viral proteins that may trigger autoimmune disorders such as type 1 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis.

EurekAlert!

"...if you can figure out how a rare disease mutation is working, you learn something about the normal proteins that all of us have," noted Dr Jonathan Miner, MD, PhD.

Insights into a rare disease known as SAVI have put a spotlight on a major immune trigger.

Initially, the thymus was believed to be an endocrine organ because its removal in early life caused changes in the ovaries and testes. Now, we understand these changes were linked to autoimmunity. 🤔🔬💡

10/ So, antigen-specific autoimmunity can't happen under the prevailing Treg biology model. ❌ But then, how do antigen-specific autoimmune diseases occur? 🤔 Here’s the twist… 🔄

#Microbiota #Autoimmunity

7/ But how could we lose a self-antigen? Not realistic. And if a self-antigen is lost, how can autoimmunity occur? No antigen, no autoimmunity. 🚫

9/ If the lost anchor antigen is similar to the target self-antigen, Treg–IL-2+ T cell collaboration stays intact. 🔄 If they’re different, losing the anchor antigen shouldn’t affect other self-antigens. ⚖️ No disruption → No autoimmunity!

5/ But what antigens do Tregs and other T cells recognize to collaborate on IL-2 supply? Is it auto-antigen? Unlikely. Why? Because for autoimmunity to happen, Tregs would need to lose their functionality. ⚠️

"The diagnostic toolkits that we use today don't make much use of the immune system's internal record..." said Maxim Zaslavsky, PhD. "But our immune system is constantly surveilling our bodies with B & T cells, which act like molecular threat sensors. Combining information from the two main arms of the immune system gives us a more complete picture of the immune system's response to #disease & the pathways to #autoimmunity & #vaccine response."
