In 2005, Sandy Mackenzie discovered some very large fossils on her property near Eromanga QLD.
In 2010, the Eromanga Natural History Museum and Queensland Museum, finished preparing and excavating the fossils.
In 2021, Scott A. Hocknull et al named the species Australotitan Cooperensis.
In 2024, S. L. Beeston et al, reviewed the relationships of Diamantinasaurus and found Australotitan was closely related to Diamantinasaurus.
