There are a number of legends associated with them, such as if any couple visiting the stones for the first time do not crawl through the central passage, they willl be left childless (probably not the most reliable form of contraception!).
Auld Wives Lifts on Craigmaddie Muir on the outskirts of Glasgow. These three massive stones, one balanced of top of the other two sit in their own natural aphitheatre and are covered on carvings, some of which is quite recent, but other may be thousands of years old. The rocks are though to be a stone age monument by some, but a natural rock formation by others. Whatever their origin, they're always worth a visit.

Once thought to be a stone age monument, this massive rock balanced on top of two smaller ones is now thought to be a natural rock formation created suring the last ice age. Either way, it's still pretty impressive and well worth the trek out of Glasgow to see.
