Caught this garden bumblebee (*Bombus hortorum*) working through the aubretia (*Aubrieta* sp.) in full spring mode. 🐝

Aubretia is one of the earliest bloomers in the garden, and bumblebees emerging from winter hibernation are especially grateful for it. The garden bumblebee is particularly fond of tubular flowers, but clearly doesn't say no to a carpet of vivid purple aubretia either. A great early-season plant for pollinators!

Aubretia is één van de vroegste bloeiende planten in de tuin, en hommels die uit hun winterrust komen zijn er bijzonder dankbaar voor. De tuinhommel heeft normaal een voorkeur voor buisvormige bloemen, maar een tapijt van felpaarse aubretia slaat ze duidelijk ook niet af. Een uitstekende vroege voorjaarsplant voor bestuivers!

I love the freely flowering #aubretia in our #garden. They've taken a couple of years to establish after I grew them from #seeds but now they're well & truly part of the garden. I'd like to think they'll self-seed & be permanent members of our borders. We have #pink, #mauve & #purple varieties

This #aubretia always blooms from one end gradually to the other, all along the wall. Right now it makes me think of a great pink fireball streaking through the sky leaving a trail of green smoke #bloomscrolling
