🌍 Met de Atlas Maior heeft uitgever Joan Blaeu zijn naam gevestigd in Nederland. De prestigieuze atlas bevat negen delen met zo’n zeshonderd kaarten, vaak ingekleurd, en drieduizend pagina’s tekst over landen, steden en regio’s.
De kaart van de Lage Landen toont de zeventien provincies, met handelsschepen voor de kust en een afwijkende oriëntatie van het Noorden.
New publication (in Dutch) about the history of antisemitism in Europe. The book takes 43 instances, ranging from Classic Antiquity to the decade before the Second World War, in which the authors trace latent or blatant antisemitism.
One of the instances is publisher Joan Blaeu’s description of The Promised Land in his renowned Atlas Maior (1664).

Atlas Maior is a band that combines elements of Arabic and Turkish music, Latin beats and Western jazz. The core of the band is comprised of an oud, saxophone, and drums, complemented by a double bass and an occasional violin. The presence of the oud obviously introduces an instantly recognizable middle eastern atmosphere, but the saxophone is just as effective in evoking the same musical themes (think John Coltrane during his mystical, sufi period). Latin influences are felt around the rhythms, going back and forth between samba and eastern Mediterranean beats. Their music is dynamic with a surprising edge, and they are adept at fusing diverse influences into a coherent and enjoyable sound.
