@Wen many people, including myself will find this hard. The prospect of people suffering and being frightened I find really disturbing, epsecially when at least some of that could have been avoided via #assisteddying. Life is precious but so is quality of life, even in the final chapter.

No idea how to paste this better but disappointed that this bill on assisted dying didn't pass.
I understand the emotions on both sides. But I'd want the choice, and think others should have it too. The thought of not being able to have the same right an animal has to be put out of my misery or put my kith and kin at risk of prosecution of helping me to travel where it's legal...it just isn't right.

Scotland's assisted dying bill rejected after emotional debate

Scotland would have become the first part of the UK to legalise the process had MSPs backed the proposals.

#Scotland has voted against #assisteddying. This is a very emotional subject, and I am sure those on both sides of the debate were heart felt in their opinions and honest. In the end though, I feel more for those who are facing their end of life and are now worried about how peaceful that will be. We should be about removing fear and bringing peace to people in the final stages of life.

Parliament rejects assisted dying legislation

Speaking to journalists after leaving the chamber, McArthur said he was “devastated” by the result, adding the system “has been failing dying Scots for too long” and that many will feel let down by the result.

The utter folly of the #assisteddying debate and voting hysteria never seems to end in spite of us now living in a #ClimateApocalypse of our own making. Hundreds of millions with suffer aguishing deaths in the coming years, but I don’t expect the #NannyState to give a toss for any of them. This debate is about control, not about respect for an individuals choice to terminate their life. #WakeUp you fools! https://www.theguardian.com/society/2026/mar/17/scottish-parliament-votes-against-legalising-assisted-dying?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

I've no idea if this was the right result. I think those dying ought to be able to ease their death, but I understand why others - be they MSPs, doctors, or those who feel threatened by such measures may disagree.

"Members of the Scottish Parliament vote 69 to 57 against legalising assisted dying. One member abstained."

And I find it really hard to read people posting about making life worth living instead. My dad died of pulmonary fibrosis, suffocating to death over two years hooked up permanently to oxygen. The last few months were agonising. People saying this haven't a clue how much some suffer. It is so cruel. #AssistedDying #Scotland #NHS #Health #PalliativeCare #Politics

Very sad to see the Scottish assisted dying bill voted against. Thinking of my dad tonight, and those like him, who suffered cruel and prolonged deaths from terminal disease, with totally inadequate palliative care, and would have dearly liked the option of assisted dying legislation. #AssistedDying #Scotland #NHS #Health #PalliativeCare #Politics
