Did you know that Brontosaurus lived 80-90 million years before Tyrannosaurus were walking on Earth? Interestingly enough T-rex went extinct in the late Maastrichtian (!) age, which makes them closer to human time on Earth than to the Bronto one. In my head slow tempos plus down-tuned guitar makes for the soundrtack of the devastation of dinousaurs life. Inevitable extinction of mankind is bound to happen with some punk puking the anarchic lyrics into the microphone in the background. And for day to day life? Well, in crust we trust I guess.

Gedreven door urgentie bundelen een groep Nederlandse FLINTA*-fronted bands hun krachten voor Girls to the Front! Na de debuutcompilatie van vorig jaar is dit alweer de tweede release. Girls to the Front viert niet alleen de uiteenlopende punkgeluiden die FLINTA-fronted acts in Nederland maken en luid laten horen, maar geeft ook een stem aan de intersectionele strijd en inspiratie van deze makers. Het doel: een gemeenschap van FLINTA personen creëren die samen kunnen moshen, zonder voortdurend rekening te moeten houden met de mannelijke dominantie in muziekruimtes.

Na de release op Internationale Vrouwendag bij EKKO gaat Girls to the Front II nu op tour door het land, met een stop bij VERA. Op het podium: de chaotische DIY electronic punk pups Hondenfokker, de improv-gedreven experimentele super-punkband Supermarkt, de feministische grunge-punk kracht Bleedroot, bijtend met 80s/90s grit, en terrorpunks BOMBSTRAP, rauw, nihilistisch en politiek geladen!

Girls to the Front: Clitteband + Snackbar + Hondenfokker

Girls to the Front is an initiative from Utrecht that focuses on the representation of FLINTA in the Dutch punk music industry. It started off as an event in Utrecht, organized by Bibi Fay Bannink (an 18-year-old feminist punk fan with a plan) and grew into a compilation LP with the 14 most prominent punk bands with FLINTA front women, named Girls to the Front.

On International Women’s Day 2026, the second “Girls to the Front” compilation album was released. We are celebrating this once more with three bands in Merleyn: Clitteband, Snackbar and Hondenfokker.

Clitteband:
Fun: fun on stage, fun in the music. Fun in their identity as young, feminist, queer, loud and alternative. With a mix of energetic and creative punk, Clitteband is conquering stages all over the country. Screaming, stomping, throwing punches, pushing back and pushing boundaries: Clitteband draws inspiration from old punk, but is not afraid to innovate.

Snackbar:
In 2026, SNACKBAR cane back from the Amsterdam back alleys to the stage with fresh blood in the line-up and new music. Expect a fatal dose of feminist hard rock with screeching organs, cutting guitar riffs and compelling punk rhythms. In 2024 they released their first EP; a second one is on the way.

Hondenfokker:
Hondenfokker put themselves front and centre. No abstractions or fragmented worlds, but direct confrontation. A punk-driven trio that mixes electronic beats with screeching guitars, pure vocal improvisations and guilty pleasure melodies. Soaked in fun and fashion, these “breeders” find their way to every party.

Vorst in de Grond 2026: Castillo, Waterschade, Robber, Krime & Homunculoid

Zolang er een ongekozen monarch op het pluche zit, is Minor Operation Bookings genoodzaakt om Vorst In De Grond Fest te organiseren. Want waar moeten alle koningshaters anders heen om zich het licht zo hard uit de ogen te feesten dat ze de hele Koningsdag-onzin gewoon doorslapen? Dus ook dit jaar trekken we op Koningsnacht, zondag 26 april, weer een blik open met boze punk-, Oi!-, hardcore- en powerviolence-herrie.

Castillo

All the way from Los Angeles komt Castillo met rauwe maar melodieuze Oi! die met één beuk alle pakjes boter indeukt. Wat begon als een covid-project met twee leden is inmiddels uitgegroeid tot een goed geoliede oorlogsmachine.

Waterschade

Waterschade is ondertussen niet meer weg te denken uit het Nederlandse punklandschap. Hun woede over een maatschappij gebouwd op uitbuiting, kapitalisme, racisme en patriarchaat gieten ze in retestrakke songs en een vlammende liveshow.

Robber

Is het hardcore? Is het Oi!? Is het rock ’n’ roll? Wat de fuck maakt het uit, als het maar hard is. Met leden van Traumatizer, OUST en Frontsector weet je in ieder geval wat voor (vega) vlees je in de kuip hebt. Dat wordt een kwaliteitshap.

Krime

Dit Nijmeegse collectief met leden uit Citizens Patrol en Bratpack serveert pakkende hardcorepunk met melodieuze hooks en een woest politieke lading. Vooral bekend van hun hit: Stadioncrust.

Homunculoid

De avond wordt geopend door dit jonge powerviolence-trio dat in korte tijd een reputatie heeft opgebouwd voor herrie maken op de gekste plekken. Zo speelden ze onlangs nog op het toilet bij Flinty’s. Bereid je voor om de stront uit je oren geblazen te krijgen.

Choose Love

De punkrock-fundraisers van Minor Operation Donations zijn er ook weer bij om geld op te halen voor Choose Love, de internationale organisatie die humanitaire hulp biedt aan vluchtelingen. Ze verkopen gedoneerde subculturele parafernalia; jij bepaalt zelf wat je betaalt en iedere cent gaat naar het goede doel. Sinds hun oprichting in 2018 haalden ze al meer dan €50.000 op. PUNK = LIEFDE.
