Ireland's Basic Income scheme is ok as far as it goes but one problem with it is that you somehow have to be an "accredited" artist in some way. So there's paperwork involved and probably some NGO/QUANGO. Someone in my feed recently went as far as calling it "artwashing." Sorry, I've forgotten who and I'd just rather write this than do the search thing right now.
I know it's often said that we should Universal basic income, and I agree with that. But I'm also thinking, atm, that we should have a similar basic income scheme for supporting open source developers. And it shouldn't come with a prerequisite of belonging to a developers' body and/or getting the right accreditation.

Attached: 1 image This is an attempt to art-wash decades of policy FAILURES. Happy for the 2k contemplated but considering the stats, i.e. how many of us artists/art workers struggle to make the bare minimum, how much The Arts give back and how slow this Basic Income for the Arts scheme is moving, it boils down to being art-washing for crumbs đ https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/feb/10/ireland-basic-income-for-the-arts-scheme-becomes-permanent #BasicIncome #BasicIncomeForTheArts #ArtMatters #mastodaoine #artists #art #ArtsWorkers #Ireland #WorkersRights
