Tip of the week for drying your work: whenever you doubt if the clay is dry enough to bisque fire without a change of exploding, weigh it! Daily, at the same time.

Water evaporates out of the clay, so it loses weight each day. When the weight differs only a few grams it's good to go into the kiln.

Happy clay days!

A little #ArtTip from my latest Ko-Fi post:

When working digitally, the typical cube or triangle colour wheels don't do a good job of showing the brighter hues intuitively. Here's a little trick: switch to the L*a*b colour space. It shows colour relations in a more natural way and it's much easier to adjust the sliders and get a good result.

I write art blogs each month and share thoughts and tips as they come up in my own paintings. The newest post:

Little tip for creating alpha cut-out textures. The transparent parts often are black, which leads to ugly borders (especially in mipmaps). You can fix this quickly in gimp by blurring only the colour channels with blend mode "behind". #GameDev #Art #ArtTip

Art doesn't need to be flawless. It's all about tricking the mind into seeing something which isn't actually there. You don't have to know how to draw everything life-like to create decent art. Knowing the basics of how to draw & shade your motive is often enough to make this work

btw little tip for anyone else who is into upcycling or junk journals and such like me, if you use packaging paper:

Use an iron to flatten out the paper! I used to not do this, but it really do make a difference and makes the paper easier to work with after. :) #arttip

If you are trying to learn how to draw, keep in mind that it is a slow process. One part of which is knowing how to draw something. The other is putting said knowledge to use by grabbing a pen & practising - a lot - in order to really be able to draw that something decently.

References can make or break the art you're working on, so it's important to collect or make good ones. I chat about collecting reference and using 3D to make your own in my public September 2022 entry:

The main thing that tipped me off that I might be #ActuallyAutistic (ie. #AuDHD) is my obsession with systems.

I updated my 10 year old blog post to add my current system for keeping and managing ideas for more elaborate drawings and paintings: https://neladunato.com/blog/how-to-handle-crazy-influx-of-ideas-and-keep-ideas-organized/

Since I have a million paper sketchbooks, this is the only way to keep my all ideas where they're easy to find.

How to handle a crazy influx of ideas and keep ideas organized

You might have more ideas than you know what to do with — it's both a blessing and a curse. Here are my suggestions how to handle this 'problem'.

It's OK to feel more comfortable not using the "good paper" & the "good pens", if it helps you to create. There is no shame in not using expensive art supplies.
Getting a good knowledge of your basics is what makes you become a better artist, eventually, not the supplies you use.

When shading, try to keep in mind that shadows, most of the time, are not black. Using a darker shade of the color you want to put a shadow on will make the transition look much smoother.
Also, you can try using the complementary color of the base one to apply shadows.
