March 2025, walked about an hour out on the Torrey C Brown railroad trail. Broke my fast, then took a spooky walk back after sunset. Owls were hooting, I was walking quickly and occasionally looking over my shoulder, but was totally alone.

chilly weekends at the studio ~ swipe to see some progress on a purpose built butter dish i'm making for my partner and I.
We needed something that would fit in our fridge door, that has low sides so the butter is easy to cut when opened and with handles so it is easy to lift the container out of the fridge door shelf ~ and voila this is what i came up with! Planning to keep the body of the dish in natural clay and to paint the handles a bright red, at least for now. This is one of the main reasons I love having a ceramics practice so much, i can purpose build all kinds of things i need for my home and have 100% control over the design and function.

My psychologist told me to make a visual list of things I need to do "recharge" b/c when my battery is @ 0, executive functioning has left the chat. And she said to make sure I include pictures. I made my best to include pictures that inspire a feeling™. And you know what? It works! I look at those pictures think, "what do I want to feel?" And that's how I had a short impromptu dance party, and it felt like an impromptu artist date.

Doing the #ArtistsWay again with a group reminds me of when I first worked through the book when I was much younger, when it was pre-smartphones.

I am reminded of just how much of my attention now goes to looking at projected screens rather than what is around me.

Screens on the wall, on my desk, or in my hands. When I am in an elevator I am checking emails and texts rather than being with my own thoughts.

I am realizing that I need to put some containers around this overload of input.

Has anyone here tried the Julia Cameron 'Artist Way' creativity process? I would love to hear other people's experience with it!
There are aspects I've really enjoyed - for instance, I really enjoy writing longhand with the 'morning pages' - it's so surprising that I have so much to say and don't feel an ounce of 'blockage' when there is no intended audience.
