The mural “Huygenika” can be found on a blind wall of the former “Wilhelmina Hospital”, located on Tweede Constantijn Huygensstraat. It was created by artists Uri Martinez (also known as Uriginal) and Irene Lopez Leon. 👩‍🎨 👨🏽‍🎨

Uri Martinez, a painter from Barcelona, is known for blending details from historical artworks with modern elements. The mural’s name, “Huygenika”, refers to Picasso’s famous painting “Guernica”—both in style and in the central image of a horse. 🎨 🐴

At the IJ-Hallen, artists are spraying graffiti and street art on the old shipyard walls (without consequences 😅). It’s an open-air gallery where creativity is welcome. The art changes often, so the place always feels fresh and alive. 🖼️ 🎨

This spot started out of an old industrial area that later became a place for artists, markets, and new ideas. At first, the graffiti was unofficial, but locals and the city began to support it. Now, artists from all over the world paint here, making it a colorful and popular place to visit. Unfortunately it’s losing it’s rough edges rapidly, being swallowed by yet another brand new suburb. 🏙️
