Google's search VP, Liz Reid, recently responded to criticism of AI Overviews in search results. 🔍

She blames:

- people being weird 🤪
- people faking stuff 🤥
- haters being haters 😒

But I think she accidentally revealed the real issue with AI Overviews in search:

" While AI Overviews are powered by a customized language model, the model is integrated with our core web ranking systems and designed to carry out traditional “search” tasks, like identifying relevant, high-quality results from our index."

With search quality already degraded by SEO and AdSense trash, it would seem that AI overview is a challenge at least with the devil's bargain Google is beholden to.
