New research finds #neotame can cause #healthy #gutbacteria to become #diseased

A new study is the first to show that neotame, one of the new generation of artificial sweeteners, can cause previously healthy gut bacteria to become diseased and invade the gut wall – potentially leading to health issues including irritable bowel syndrome and sepsis – and also cause a breakdown of the epithelial barrier, which forms part of the gut wall. The research, carried out at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) in Cambridge, England, is published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition.

Recent studies have indicated considerable health risks associated with the consumption of artificial sweeteners. Neotame is a relatively new sweetener in the global market however there is still limited data on the impact of neotame on the intestinal epithelium or the commensal microbiota.
Artificial sweeteners linked to heart attack and stroke
After the UN declared an artificial sweetener carcinogenic, which was quickly denied by a team hired by Coca Cola, there is now a new research showing the link between an artificial sweetener and blood clots, resulting in heart attacks and strokes.
