From the vault: my Arthropleura (Carboniferous) model for Muse - Museo delle Scienze di Trento (2015). This is a smaller one, just 50cm long, but they grew to be over 2m long.

Episode 447: So Many Legs! | Strange Animals Podcast

Theme of the Month over at my Discord server is "Bugs"!

This time going for an actual insect lol
This is an Arthropleura gal, a giant millipede from the Carboniferous Period.

I wonder if I should keep her as an OC, she'd need a name.

An article published in the journal "Science Advances" reports the results of the reconstruction of the body and in particular of the head of an Arthropleura, a genus of millipedes that lived between 350 and 290 million years ago. A team of researchers subjected some of the fossils discovered in France in the 1980s to a CT scan that allowed them to obtain details that were previously hidden in the rock and 3D reconstructions.

World’s largest arthropod lived 300 million years ago. Now, fossils show what it really looked like

Researchers have wondered how an alligator-size arthropod lived more than 300 million years ago. The discovery of an intact Arthropleura head offers new insights.
