I've added a new, random drawing to my #Artfol portfolio.

I got around the annoyance with their native mobile app, by just using their website in a mobile browser, which works perfectly fine.

Anyway, a pencil #drawing of a #dragon for you.

@FJ_Brodie shared a post on Artfol | Object of Devotion

A hand-drawn pencil sketch on annoyingly yellow paper. But it is what it is. While standing in a humanoid position, I wanted to draw a dragon holding their hatching egg in their claws. I have tried to retain some key dragon features, but have intentionally softened the look. I wanted the focus to be the egg, not the dragon itself. I've been trying to add more scene to my drawing, so I've vaguely hinted at the dragon being at a cave entrance with exceedingly blurry mountains in the distance.

I uploaded the final, re-taken, despeckled version of the man-and-cat silhouette to my #Artfol profile, while waiting for more serious stuff to complete.

I had to combine #TraditionalMedia with edits in #GIMP to create a piece worth sharing. I don't think that's a bad thing.

@FJ_Brodie shared a post on Artfol | "My Human" - Man and Cat Silhouette Drawing

A hand-drawn silhouette of a man (yes, he's wearing glasses), with a cat silhouette draped over his far shoulder. The background is sort-of pinky-red with hints of unintended orange. But it works. If you're interested in the process: 1. The Traditional Art Stage: From an outline drawn from seeing my own cat over my shoulder, I first worked the background for a couple of layers using coloured pencils. Only then did I add the greys and blacks. Many silhouettes have slight fuzzy outlines, but I made mine more pronounced, partly for style and partly to make it clear where the man and cat began and ended. 2. Fighting the Paper I had to apply multiple layers of colour due to the texture of the paper. I wore it out a little, but I should have used smooth or shiny paper for this piece. Lesson learned. 3. GIMP Edit Because the photo of the actual drawing came out rubbish - the light reflected on the white of the sketchbook, which made it look like I hadn't spent 4+ hours on it, which I had. So, I ran it through a denoise filter in GIMP and then compared my sketchbook to the screen and adjusted curves a little to ensure it reflected reality. It was nice to finish a personal project in two days around other life activities. I hope you like this quick drawing.

Does anyone have any experience with #artist site alternatives to #Artfol?

The site and app are frustratingly slow.

I'm not an /artist/ as such, but want a sort of social platform to post my drawings to, keep them in one place, but that is categorically anti-AI submissions.

Recommendations?

I've also changed my #ARTFOL username to my writing alias. I feel like art, unless you have a brand, needs a more personal touch.

I've updated my #Artfol profile a bit tonight.

I'm not exactly good enough for, you know, making money from it, but I wanted somewhere to gradually upload my sketches to, so they were in one place.

In that way, I hoped to improve over time and be able to show it, rather than the photos of my drawings fall into the black hole that is my memory.

I have a few still to photograph. But, it's a start.

@FJ_Brodie is on Artfol | Art portfolio and social network

Hi, I'm just an average guy wanting to share a journey of drawing both traditionally and digitally. Occasionally woodwork-ally. | I'm a hubby of one, and a dad of one. I have various chronic conditions, one is Fibromyalgia. I am also socially-averse and rejection sensitive. So, finding somewhere to post my drawings when I finish them is rather unnerving. I also write fantasy under the name of FJ Brodie and am drawing my characters and maps for those now.

Is #Artfol down atm?

I went into Artfol for the first time in a week and there was a little banner at the top. Part of it was covered by a loading symbol, and I thought it said, "Artfol is bellying up" and I got jump scared SO bad XD

(It actually said Artfol was levelling up)

If you publish art or writings on any of the sites listed in the tags below, your works have likely been included in a dataset for AI training. Public access to AO3, CharacterHub, and PaintBerri data has been (temporarily) disabled, but the owner may reinstate access at any time.

However, three datasets are still freely accessible. Those sites include Artfol, Itaku, and Paperdemon Art.

If you want to opt out, steps for getting your work removed are included in a Google Doc in the prior link. I highly suggest also reading the first article for full context.

How to Submit Copyright Infringement/Art Theft

Currently I haven't filed a DMCA, but simply created an account on HuggingFace, raised a copyright infringement issue and sent an email to nyuuzhou requesting that my art be removed (Along with a CSV of the links and titles of my pieces). Hopefully this will be sufficient!

As a few folks liked my #SWTOR Chibi Twi'lek, I finished it and uploaded it to my new #Artfol profile.

I'm nervous showing my drawings, but wanted a central place to keep them all.
