British auctioneer Matthew Haley noticed the seal of the Goeldi Museum on a 17th century natural history manuscript that came up for sale and became suspicious, contacting the Museum. Eventually, the Brazilian Federal police, Scotland Yard and Interpol became involved. The work, stolen in 2008 from the Goeldi's rare books collection, was officially recovered this week.
The Brazilian Federal Police, in collaboration with Scotland Yard, recovered TODAY in London a rare Dutch book from the year 1658 that was stolen from the Goeldi Museum, in Belém do Pará (where I work!), in 2008. The valuable work by doctor Willem Piso presents drawings and descriptions of flora, fauna and medicinal plants of Brazil based on his historic expedition in the early 17th century together with geographer and astronomer Georg Marcgrave.

Siinä mielessä toi mieleeni Uuden Sherlockin Moriatryn. Jolle kaikki oli nim. om. performanssia. Toki tyyppi oli myös pelottava psykopaatti. Mutta myös tavattoman karismaattinen.

It’s really wild that Shelby (& the #metmuseum ) have gotten away with this so long (These are all museum-grade artefacts that fall under severe export restrictions since the 1980s at least) and so often (This is at least the third time Shelby is implicated with #lootedart & #artsmuggling .
