Good morning sunshine!
By Alphonse Mucha
A favorite artist of mine! What I love is the black lines that contain the forms as well as the color choice, the elaborate flow of lines. They are pure elegance! The figures are charming and tell there part of the story.
Alphonse Mucha was an internationally known Czech artist born in 1939, July 14th. He lived in Paris during the Art Nouveau period. I love this particular period of time. The elegance of what artists created were outstanding and elegant! Mucha’s work had a distinctive style. The forms of his creativity were, illustrations, advertisements, decorative panels and beautiful theater posters of the well known artist Sarah Bernhardt. His designs were famous. There seems to be interest in his work again. Later, after this period of work he would return home where he devoted himself to twenty phenomenal, t symbolistic works of art depicting the history of the Slavic peoples of the world. These were called The Slav Epic. Painted during 1912 and 1926. Mucha felt this was his most important work which he presented to the Czech nation on the 10th anniversary of the independence of Czechoslovakia.
The Art Nouveau Style simply bloomed between 1890 and 1910 in both the United States and Europe. It was beautiful work using long, sinuous, elegant lines; found in architecture, interior design work, in jewelry, glassware, posters and in illustrations. Art Nouveau was an attempt to create a new style of work. This was my own desire with Shibui Found Image Art. I wanted to make something I had not done before! I wanted to understand its purpose! The Art Nouveau style of art was free of was called “imitative historicism” this had dominated the 19th centuries impregnating both art and design. The name was coined by a Belgium periodical called L’Art Moderne.
The very best! I wish for you! May love and laughter find you!
