#Putin has arrived in #Alaska for a #summit with #Trump on the #Russia #Ukraine #war.

The Russian president hasn’t been to the #UnitedStates since a 2015 meeting at the #UN General Assembly in New York.

The International Criminal Court [#ICC] issued an #ArrestWarrant on #WarCrimes accusations for Putin in 2023. But the #US isn’t a member of that global body, so officials are under no obligation to arrest him.

Before Alaska, only 2 Western leaders — the prime ministers of tiny Slovakia & Hungary — had met with #Putin since he ordered the full-scale invasion of #Ukraine in Feb 2022 & was placed under an international #ArrestWarrant for #WarCrimes in March 2023.

Many in #Europe have been flabbergasted by Trump’s decision to hold a summit on Ukraine that excluded #Zelensky, & the continent’s leaders have pressed #Trump not to strike a deal behind Ukraine’s back.
