Well, if the country's gonna burn, anyway, I might as well live my truth while I still can.
I realized about a year ago that I am #aromantic. Tomorrow, 16 Feb. 2025, begins Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week, "an annual, international event meant to spread awareness and acceptance of aromantic spectrum identities and the issues we face, as well as making more people aware of our existence while celebrating it" (definition from the ASAW website, here -- https://www.arospecweek.org/). I'll be sharing memes and resources this week to explain and explore further. But I am still learning, too.
I'm just grateful to feel so unburdened. To know I am not broken, just different. Now I can begin to heal. Not knowing has caused me so much confusion, and led me to some hurtful decisions, for myself and others. That's on me, and I make no excuses for any pain I caused (though I have made amends wherever I could). But at least now I understand the source of all my confusion.
Aromantic doesn't mean #asexual! Though many #aro people are also #ace, the two orientations are different things. I do not and never have experienced romantic love or desires for traditional romantic relationships. But I am definitely NOT asexual! I'm heterosexual as well as aromantic -- a straight aro! -- and this has been a source of many mixed signals from me over the years.
But now I understand, and have a path forward towards healing and understanding.
Perhaps it's fate that Green Arrow is my favorite superhero, since green is the color of the aro community.
