It's wild how usable the #Argon40 ONE UP is with a 16GB #RaspberryPi CM5.

Lilbits: MSI Cubi mini PC with Intel Panther Lake, LineageOS 23.2, and an open source IDE/ATAPI drive emulator

During CES, MSI unveiled the Cubi NUC AI+ 3MG mini PC with support for up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 Panther Lake processor. Now the company has started teasing an impending launch, promising to deliver a little computer with support for up to four displays, dual 2.5 Gigabit network ports, and AI capabilities, among other things.

One thing to know is that these little computers will not feature […]

Excellent hands-on review of the #argon40 #oneup #pi #cm5 laptop. Excellent but also disappointing for me; I had been keen to get one but it seems there are ports not yet working properly, no hardware sleep mode, a total lack of documentation and support, and of course there's the RAM price crisis. @geerlingguy 's conclusion that it's not a good enough deal right now seems pragmatic and fair, and I'm going to stick with used Thinkpads.

Why is it that every time I try to do something interesting with computers, I end up frustrated and finding things not working as advertised?

Bought a #RaspberryPi 5, put it in an #Argon40 ONE V3 case, and after around 5 attempts managed to get the thing to correctly power up.

But I bought this case because of the #Argon remote control, and the case has an in-built receiver. But does it work? Does it hell.

Not in #LibreELEC and not in #Raspbian, even though I'm using the latest repos for everything and reading forum posts to try and reproduce what people say works but doesn't.

Another week wasted, on and off, so I'm still stuck watching stuff on the main desktop PC and not on my 55" TV in the lounge, because with a remote control, #Kodi is painful to use.

The Argon40 ONE UP is a modular laptop powered by a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5, and according to this review, it's pretty good at what it does. But due to rising component prices you can get a much faster laptop with an Intel or AMD chip for less money. https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2026/the-first-good-raspberry-pi-laptop/#fn:1 #Argon40OneUp #Argon40 #RaspberryPi #RaspberryPiCM5 #JeffGeerling
The first good Raspberry Pi Laptop

Ever since the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 was introduced, I wondered why nobody built a decent laptop chassis around it. You could swap out a low spec CM5 for a higher spec, and get an instant computer upgrade. Or, assuming a CM6 comes out someday in the same form factor, the laptop chassis could get an entirely new life with that upgrade.

My excitement is palpable today. I woke to find an email confirming that DPD will be delivering a new laptop this afternoon.

New laptops are not a novel thing, for many they are commodity items.
What makes this one special and exciting for me is that it is one I "ordered" back in September '25 when I backed #Argon40, along with 978 others, to manufacture and deliver their Argon ONE UP on Kickstarter.

The laptop is built around a RaspberryPi Compute Module 5, 8GB RAM and a 256GB NVME drive.

The Argon ONE UP arrived. It sat outside for a while, and it's too cold to touch. But soon, I'll have a little laptop with a big GPIO header. I guess it's time to figure out how to install Raspbian on an SSD. (The laptop has an SD card slot, so I can boot from that too.)

This has to be the best case of 2025. Check out #argon40 #ArgonONEv5 with me! If you have a board from #RaspberryPi they definitely work checking out. This one is for #RaspberryPi5

@kbob Was browsing the #argon40 hashtag... I criticise Argon40 a lot (mainly for their really fiddly and fragile case designs) but I'll still probably get a One Up once they're in proper retail production. Would never touch a kickstarter version - too many "the customer is the tester" vibes.
@TheOneDoc Similar experiences here with a couple of #argon40 cases. I tend to use #geekworm now - very basic but hey, less to go wrong.
