Chris Lanooy 1881-1948 was the first studio potter in the Netherlands.
Sadly the Netherlands is a country with a very limited sense of history. His name is now unfamiliar to most people working in ceramics and his work is not very well represented in museum collections.

A younger me, somewhere in the 1980's, working as an apprentice at Pottenbakkerij De Olde Kruyk in Milsbeek, NL.
Guul Jacobs and his wife Fransje van Keulen have long since become dear friends. Their encouragement and support to set up my own pottery has been of great help.
Last month they both recieved a well deserved knighthood for their contributions to the world of ceramics.

Le saviez-vous qu’un éléphant malade va spontanément ingérer de l’argile pour se soigner ?
S’il a le choix entre plusieurs, il va instinctivement aller vers celle qui convient pour sa maladie ou sa carence[1].
Même chose chez les perroquets Aras, qui savent exactement quelle argile manger[2] après avoir picoré des fruits toxiques (car pas assez mûrs).
