Anyone running #archiveteamwarrior here?

I've gotten an email from my ISP that #malware (Tinba/avalanche/ranbyus/nymaim/generic) has been found communicating on my network for the past couple days.

I received a list of reports with my IP address, which was detected by shadowserver.org and cert-bund.de for attempting to reach the destination IP address 216.218.185.162, which is controlled as a sinkhole by shadowserver.org

The list also tells me that it wasn't active over the last weekend, which is where my Warriors had stopped working without me noticing.

The detection mostly happened at times when just my IoT stuff and my Warrior-VMs were running. I've shut them down now and will continue to monitor the situation, as I've already checked most of my devices by now. But I highly suspect the Warriors to be the cause, having crawled specific sites that triggered this report.

Does anyone have more information about this or similar things happening before? Do I need to do any additional steps?

The ArchiveTeam Warrior has been running intermittently on my laptop for ten days now.

It downloads stuff and puts it into the Internet Archive.

Everything's fine. It only runs while I use the laptop. I don't notice it. When the laptop goes into standby and wakes up again that doesn't seem to have any adverse effects.

I've downloaded and uploaded gigabytes so far. The top of the leader board for this project is half a petabyte.

Now I'm considering a installation where it could run around the clock. I don't want to increase our household's standby energy consumption too much, so I will see how that goes.

Installed and started the ArchiveTeam Warrior. Very smooth experience.

It downloads stuff and puts it into the Internet Archive.

I took the "ArchiveTeam’s Choice" project and it chose public telegram channels. It's not taking a lot of bandwidth or memory or space or computing, as far as I can tell. It might take too much of my time and focus if I continue staring at the dashboard to try and figure out what all that stuff is.

ArchiveTeam Warrior

hello fellow creatures - i am having an issue with virtualbox that i think you might be able to help with

i am trying to run archiveteam warrior's virtualbox application, but this happens even with trying to load up a linux mint vm, so i'm thinking something is misconfigured somewhere in virtualbox. the host machine is windows 11

here's my vbox.log:
https://pastebin.com/gHxGx1Sf

here is one part that i think might be relevant:

emR3Debug: rc=VERR_INTERNAL_ERROR ERROR [COM]: aRC=E_INVALIDARG (0x80070057) aIID={4680b2de-8690-11e9-b83d-5719e53cf1de} aComponent={DisplayWrap} aText={Argument aWidth is invalid (must be aWidth != 0 && aWidth <= 32767)}, preserve=false aResultDetail=0
i can't for the life of me figure out what's happening to make it do that. i've tried increasing vram, swapping the window sizes between none / auto / specific size. the only thing i think i can't do is tell it to not automatically resize the thing while the vm is running (via the dropdown menu) because i can't boot the vm and it won't let me change that unless the vm is running, lol

i do have two monitors if that's useful? i read that that might be causing issues? maybe??

i do not think i have any other virtualization stuff installed (i removed WSL to make sure that wasn't interfering, but fwiw, that ran fine)

i tried running 7.1.7 test build of virtualbox to see if that would help but it threw a mismatched signature error (which tbh might be my fault and i'm going to try again later on)

i'm not quite sure what's happening or where to start poking things, i haven't really used virtualbox before this and my search results haven't been entirely helpful.

what do yall think

this is fun:

  • archiveteam warrior vm won't boot in virtualbox 7.1.6 running on win11 host citing a VERR_INTERNAL_ERROR with displaywrap having to do with awidth not being set properly
    • the solutions i have found are either not for displaywrap (like, found solutions for networking) or tell you to toggle a setting that i do not have access to while the vm is not running (disabling letting it resize its window iirc)
    • the archiveteam warrior wiki thing doesnt have anything about this either, so i don't think the issue is specific to that

what... what is happening. what should i poke to see if something changes

There was a lack of a decent web based leaderboard so I wrote one in python and got up to speed on publishing to pypi properly. It's a nice minimal example of publishing a single python file to an installable command.

@internetarchive This leader board has grown significantly since I posted (click on "+ Show all"). That's probably not from my influence, but if so, thank you for letting me influence you! 😁

Even if you only turn on the #ArchiveTeamWarrior for a little while and let it process just a few hundred or a few thousand items, you're helping out!
