"Consecrated in the 11th century, Lincoln Cathedral has welcomed people through its doors for almost a thousand years. It is one of the great Cathedrals of the world, attracting visitors of all ages and nationalities.
The Cathedral is first and foremost a place of worship and pilgrimage. The daily offering of prayer and praise, enriched by wonderful music, beats at the heart of the Cathedralโs life. Our Father Willis organ is one of the finest organs in the world. It us used every day for our services as well as special events. To ensure it always sounds its best it is tuned regularly; usually on a Wednesday in the middle of the month.
If you visit us on organ tuning day, expect to hear long, continuous notes played as each note is checked and tuned. Itโs not the most beautiful sound youโll hear from the organ, but it is necessary.
To make sure every member of the family has fun, youโll find exciting activities and information around every corner as you explore the Cathedral. At the welcome desk you can pick up a themed backpack. For younger children, there is an activity trolley with books, dressing-up, puppets and much more.
We aim to provide a space which is welcoming to all and are committed to inclusive practices through staff training and physical adaptations where possible."
I had a look at the events they have on and they range from the stained glass tour, commemoration of Holocaust memorial day, Historic Graffiti tours, Guided roof tours, an evening of Radiohead, Queen by candlelight and much more! There's also educational tours for schools, family fun or just people just wanting to visit.
