Thank you to all the partners, speakers and participants who made 2025 a wonderful year for our community.

Now it's time for a small break over the holidays and we'll return with the first meetup of 2026 on January 15th!

Check out the full spring calendar at https://archipylago.dev/ and join us! If you're interested in giving a talk, get in touch!

December is right around the corner and with it comes #AdventOfCode.

We're hosting an Advent of Code sprint — a chill session for us to get together, solve some puzzles and have a good time together before holidays — Thursday 11.12. at Konttori.

archipylago #15 - December sprint at Konttori

Turku, Finland. December 11, 18:00-21:00. Christmas is at risk again and it's our job to help Santa and elves to save it. [Advent of Code](https://adventofcode.com/) is an annual Christmas calendar with daily puzzles to be solved by eager developers. The first puzzles of the year open December 1st and on Thursday 11th, we gather together at [Konttori](https://sites.utu.fi/konttori/) to solve puzzles, share ideas, compare solutions and learn new things. Whether you've solved all puzzles up to that date or have never opened the Advent of Code website, you're welcome to join! After we close the doors at Konttori, we move across the street to Portti to continue the good discussions.

My talk from @pyconfi was published today.

In the talk, I share my tips for becoming better at debugging: the mindset, some processes and great Python tooling.

Our third speaker is Stephen who's a long-time community member and today he's here to talk about event-driven finite state machines.

We also have @hugovk in the house showcasing what new things Python got in 3.14 and to talk about National Novel Generation Month.

Ever since our first meetup, we've been pestering Niklas to give a talk and he finally caved!

Super excited to hear about keyword and vector search.

It's meetup day and a full house!

Big thanks to Knowit for hosting us in your comfy office ❤️

archipylago #14 - November 2025 at Knowit

Turku, Finland. November 13, 18:00-20:30. Welcome to our November meetup at Knowit! **Registration opens 30.10. at 12.00** 18.00 Doors open 18.15 Niklas Nevalainen: Is keyword search dead? 18.50 Break 19.15 Stephen Sullivan: States, Events, Action! 19.45 Socialising 20.30 Post-meetup discussions at Cosmic Comic Cafe ## Talks **Niklas Nevalainen: Is keyword search dead?** Search powers many of the AI systems built today yet it's often treated as an afterthought. In this talk I'll break down how keyword and vector searches differ, and show how these perform in an Elasticsearch demo. We'll also take a look at what happens when you mix the two. This talk is about inverted indices, relevance, signals, hobbits, and perhaps some learnings as well. **Stephen Sullivan: States, Events, Action!** An example of building a "event driven finite state machine" in Python. We'll cover: 1. Why implementing a soluton from an existing pattern can be a good idea 2. The finite state machine as a pattern for bringing order to chaos 3. A walkthrough of coding one in Python. A practical talk aimed at both early career developers and those who like arguing about abstractions.
