Where's all the arborists? - Lemmy.World

We need more arborists on Lemmy. Facebook is the only place I can get my fix, and I hate that site. I only have an account for my son’s daycare.

calling on #arborists and #treelovers to tell me what tree this is pls #treesofMastodon

Great news! They are ripening right now! 😄 I tried the tips offered by you all and also the last site linked by @kellyromanych which was the most specific one for my needs. Even then I tried the 4 methods of: slight give, twist off tree to pick, smell and color. The ONE I tried (tip was try 1 and if too tart leave rest to try another day) had a very small amount of “give”. I was able to twist it off tree without dropping all the rest there. It was bright green but had a little yellow on one side, and after I picked it. stem end did smelly “limey”.

Son and I tried each half this key lime small lime by squeezing juice on a tortilla chip and a sprinkle of salt on top. (I was shown this by a Hispanic friend in Tucson at a full Mexican restaurant). We were happy. Now we’ll wait a day or 2 longer and pick only as we will use that day. I think since we extra watered this tree over the last 5 months is why there’s a bumper crop of limes.

Now, to check that link for the yellowing leaves issue (thanks @meganL )

Questions: Mexican Lime tree fruit
When should I pick them?
Are these limes ripe when yellow?
Do I use them like regular limes?
FYI our old tree may be over 30 years old and likely had poor or limited care in the last 10 years. It has been dying and lost about 1/3 the tree in the last 3 years. In extreme heat the leaves quickly go to yellow or yellow green. But the live branches are producing the most and largest limes in three years. Help! Need advice. #Botany #Arborists #Tree #CitrisTree #Arizona #Phoenix #Limes #Citris
Just split firewood for next year. And NO! it was not me up the gum tree. I employ Arbormedics who are expert arborists. These gums were planted as shelter belt by previous owners but in NZ grow far to fast. #firewood #gum #arborists
Hey fedi arborists. I have a flowering crabapple tree in my metro Detroit yard and I'm wondering what you thought of it.
It was planted at least 35 years ago. It's flowered well and produced fruit for most of that time. The leaves occasionally had brown spots but my mom (master gardener who planted it) said it was a fungus that would need annual spraying to resolve.
About 10-15 years ago, it obviously had an insect infestation judging by the woodpecker holes in the trunk and main branches.
Since then it's been ok, but not as healthy looking as before. It gets sun most of the day and has a larger maple tree growing over it from the north side.
Anyway, some of what I've read says that it may have about reached the end of its natural life.
Wondering what everyone here thinks.

There's a guy down the street who smoothed out his sidewalk last year by first cutting away the roots of a massive oak that had caused it to buckle. I instantly knew it was going to die. Now we wait for a storm to bring it down onto the power lines below. #swarthmore #oak #trees #sidewalks #pruning #roots #arborists #peco
Can someone please help me identify this smooth bark tree in my backyard? There is some very little bark on it. It’s mostly reddish with orange and yellow shades. I live in Oregon, USA, if that narrows the field (pun unintended but I’m leaving it). Thanks! 🌲
