The first time I saw my yoyo loach laying on its side, I thought it died and I needed to scoop it out. As I did it, it suddenly sprung back to life.

Turns out this is just how yoyo loaches sleep, on their side.

So here's my yoyo loach playing dead.

I have a heater for my fish tank with its own built-in temperature display.
But because I want to know whether the temp displayed is accurate, I bought a a second standalone thermometer. If the two numbers match, then I know the temp is correct.

Well, now both are showing two quite different numbers. I couldn't tell which one is malfunctioning, and so now I have to get a third thermometer 😥

Testing new location for my fish cam.

The fish keeper's test suite.
No CI, it's all manual process by hand.
I run the tests once a week, or when I just came back from extended travel, or when I add new live stock.

Green is not the color we want (indicates presence of ammonia, which is harmful).

Blue, Yellow, and orange are good.

Re-scaping my secondary aquarium. This was a quarantine tank, and it was looking quite bare and plain.
I've added lots of lava rocks, plants, and moss from the main tank. I plan to start a shrimp colony here.

Really missed seeing my fishes after being away from home for almost 2 weeks. I counted each one of them, and happy to report that they're doing fine. 😊 The baby fishes have grown bigger since last time I saw them, they're no longer blurry blob on camera.

At PyCon US a friend showed me his camera for his cat so he could watch his cat while away, so maybe next time I'll get the same nanny cam too.

Our fish gave birth again 🥹
I found at least two super tiny fry, so tiny I couldn't even get a clear picture of them.
Here's my attempt at capturing one of the newborns on camera. It looks just like tiny blurry moving blob..

Our Platy gave birth sometime in the weekend. We first noticed the fry on Saturday afternoon. Since then it's been mostly hiding behind the tank, around the plants. Today it started exploring towards the front of the aquarium so I could take a better video of it.
Platy fry looks transparent/lighter in color when first born. It should develop its color and looks brighter in a few more weeks.
