Das Gehäuse der Weinbergschnecke ist knapp 4 cm hoch, wodurch die Schnecke leicht zu erkennen ist. Die Schnecke ist nach Bundesartenschutzverordnung und FFH-Richtlinie geschützt. In freier Natur können Weinbergschnecken bis zu 20 Jahre alt werden.

05/27/2023 Scobee Field was mostly dry. This hole contained 2 snail shells. I measured depths with a metal rod & my scale. 5 cm to top of shell. The snail was alive when removed from the hole. The hole was 5-1/2 cm across & 9cm deep! I can't find any images of Apple Snail burrows anywhere online. They can aestivate during dry periods for 10 months!
