It’s May, and this month, the Autistic Women & Nonbinary Network recognizes Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month. For APIDA people, this is a month to celebrate the incredible diversity of APIDA communities in the US and Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi diasporas around the world. AWN is…
It's Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month!
We're so proud to have amazing APIDA disability advocates leading our organizations, including Lydia XZ Brown and Nancy Yang. Look for a newsletter soon highlighting more APIDA advocates!

For the time, saw the term #APIDA History Month being used, apparently an "inclusive" update of #AAPI to include "Desi Americans."
I always hated the word #Desi, seeing it as a North Indian term & representative of cultural imposition. And it is - derived from Hindustani, and, according to Wikipedia its use is "usually restricted to Sanskrit-derived (Indo-Aryan) languages."
Of course, Indian-American identity has always been very North-Indian centric, unfortunately. So not surprising.
Check out this week's View, a dive into Asian American Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander heritage month, its history, and what it means to those it celebrates.
honestly, and maybe I’m naive, but I think what could help is this:
when you want to share/screencap content from a bigot for a dunk, instead boost good content from a good person or link to something you like!
or, like, go read and share an important news piece.
less oxygen we give to people who want to harm #LGBTQIA #BIPOC #APIDA and other marginalized groups, the better. yeah?
