Anthony HortonAnt Mastodon, can you ID this little lady? Spotted in the Glass House Mountains, south east Queensland.
I'm fairly sure it's a Spiny Ant from the genus Polyrhachis, but not sure if the species is P. ammon, P. brisbanensis, or something else.

Saw a whole bunch of ants carrying a grasshopper on a fence while out walking. Really cool to watch them coordinate with the huge payload! No clue what kind of ants these are tho. #ants #antsofmastodon

myrmepropagandistFrantic activity continues at the cone #ant compound. They are making a network of tunnels.
The species is Dorymyrmex bureni and they are the most tiny frantic ants that I keep. It's a big challenge keeping them inside an enclosure.
