The tactics of state violence and surveillance tested on marginalized populations globally frequently return home to be used by domestic police forces. Furthermore, the United States already utilizes mass incarceration as a formalized system to punish, criminalize, and extract labor from populations experiencing poverty.
While the systemic pressure is severe, the outcome is not inevitable. The most reliable defense against the criminalization of the working class is building a dense, interconnected foundation of local power.
