So finally had the appointment with podiatrist - I had to wait a month because she has quite the waiting list, but she knows about barefoot / minimalist shoes so it was worth it.
She listened to me, then examined both my feet, tested flexing/extending strength, checked muscle engagement at ankle & butt, did a static & dynamic pressure test, a 3D scan, and a walking analysis on a treadmill.
She has put me on a daily exercises regime to strengthen muscles and hopefully this will solve my annoying ankle pain and maybe I can start running / jumping again. She didn't push insoles (she doesn't tolerate them herself either since she started wearing barefoot shoes too).
The stagier was a bit freaked I knew anatomy / biomechanics though 😅
