Buffalo, NY-native Ani DiFranco's "Joyful Girl", from her 1996 album "Dilate" on the Righteous Babe Records label:
"Everything I do is judged
And they mostly get it wrong
But oh well
'Cause the bathroom mirror has not budged
And the woman who lives there can tell
The truth from the stuff that they say
And, she looks me in the eye
And says "would you prefer the easy way?
No? Well, okay, then ...
Don't cry."
Today I learned: Ani DiFranco primarily uses the Alvarez-Yairi WY1 Bob Weir Signature acoustic guitar π
Bob Weir of course is the "musician and songwriter best known as a founding member of the Grateful Dead"
Lyrics from a previous era:
"I might go out to that phone booth
And leave a veiled invitation on your machine"
- Buffalo, New York-native Ani DiFranco's "Shy", from her 1995 album "Not a Pretty Girl" on the Righteous Babe Records label
Ani DiFranco sings Pete Seeger's song, "My Name Is Lisa Kalvelage"
"And perhaps I can tell my children six
And later on their own children
That at least in the future they need not be silent
When they are asked, 'Where was your mother, when?'"

When you grow up surrounded
By willful ignorance
You have to believe that
Mercy has its own country,
And that it's round and borderless.
There's a brutal imperial power
That my passport says I represent.
It will never represent where my heart lies.
Only vaguely where it went.

The Bern album is a double CD thing that he released independently (in Canada?) shortly after his major label debut album. Some of his great early songs, including a few songs that went on to be re-recorded better with #AniDifranco on his next album Fifty Eggs.
The Divine Comedy album is definitely short, but among my favorites of Neil Hannonβs. No fat on it.
This is actually already the updated version. Because of current events in #NewYork I am sure #AniDiFranco has already a new version. She should.
"those who have the least give the most." Yes.
