I get ear worms all the time but I don't actually *hear* the music, I *remember* the music in an entirely different way that I don't have the words to explain. I have one right now. It's really hard to even imagine what it might be like for people who don't have aphantasia or anauralia, that can actually see or hear things in their minds.

I didn't even realize anauralia was a thing until I got up this morning with today's "ear worm" and started discussing it with my son who shares this with me and then I got curious and started googling and found an article that explains pretty well why I remember things without being able to visualize them. It's also interesting to contemplate how I was able to learn to play bass well enough to perform on stage, and produce visual art that hung in galleries, including the De Young in SF once upon a time.

People Who Can’t Picture Sound in Their Minds

For some, the brain is a quiet place.

We Used to Think Everybody Heard a Voice Inside Their Heads – But We Were Wrong

Only in recent years have scientists found that not everyone has the sense of an inner voice – and a new study sheds some light on how living without an internal monologue affects how language is processed in the brain.

#introduction post? Hi, I'm Dan.
I don't generally do social media. And yet here I am. Trying out this Fedi thing,
excited to have a space where I can just be myself.

I'm recently self diagnosed
#ActuallyAutistic, #PDA, #Aphantasia, #Anauralia & officially #ADHD (39yo, better late than never!)
It's been so enlightening to finally start learning and embracing who I really am.

Meeting other autistic people has been amazing and is helping me feel less alone.

So um hi
🙂

Welcome! Meeting is a great thing. I love to meet others autists outside!

@[email protected] @actuallyautistic I've recently become interested in this in relation to how we learn, there seems to be a lot of assumptions that we all 'think' the same way but of course we don't. Any interesting research pointers would be welcome, Russell T Hurlburt for example. #Anauralia #Aphantasia
I'm interested to find out how folks with silent minds #anauralia a lack of auditory imagery, coped with being taught phonics. If you can't rehearse a sound linked to a letter what do you do instead? #EduToot
