Three months after #Anarchy2023 in Saint-Imier there have been five complaints because of vandalism, tags, graffiti. Now a charge against persons unknown has been filed, the damage is supposed to amount to several 10'000s of swiss francs. This comes on top of the fine by the swiss rail service of 190'000.- for illegal rail-crossing.

This was reported on the news show 12:45 by the french-swiss TV station RTS. Link follows as soon as the story is online in written form.

These last few days i have been watching some of the videos from #Socialism2023. Some of it was interesting, like the panel on carceral sanity. But most of it was trying to sell books. And then there was Naomi Klein, who in one sentence said she still believed in the Green New Deal and Bernie Sanders, in other words reformist or #greenwashing stuff, and in the next seemed to say that we need an insurrection!? Uhm. And oh, she was also selling her latest book (which i will read, it sounds quite relevant).

I am definitely not a socialist.

But. The conference had a state of the art #COVID19-policy. And comparing this to some recent anarchist conferences and festivals, like the superspreader #Anarchy2023 for instance, made me despair yet again.

It has to be stated again and again, the #anarchist scene has glamorously failed and keeps failing during the ongoing pandemic and is therefore not the scene to be involved in as we enter the age of the pandemics.

Yes, COVID is not the last pandemic, far from it. In fact, COVID has even weakened our immune systems in such a fundamental way, that it opened the door even wider for future pandemics.

The ableist even eugenic turn i had to witness and even experience among people claiming to believe in #anarchy has been the biggest disappointment in my life. So far.

Get a fucking grip.
Let us build robust and radical communal care structures.
Mutual aid needs to be a praxis or fuck off.
Abolish cops, psychiatry, the state, the family.

Oh cool. Now an article about the hook-up culture at #Anarchy2023. Just what we needed.

Reading this text 👆 (that reads like a report from a boy scout camp, but nevermind that for now), was a very challenging read for me as a neurodivergent, disabled and chronically ill person, who could not even attend #Anarchy2023 because of the lack in COVID-19 precautions.

1. (as i wrote above) No mention of the ableist organizational structure and the huge lack in many regards of accessibility (even the fucking wheelchair ramps were too narrow for actual wheelchairs!)

2. In the text there are several examples of just how horrible things were organized from an accessibility and inclusion point of view. This was an event strictly for the able bodied.

Some examples, and there are more: A 20 minutes walk to the venue. Standing room only in most of the rooms. Crowded double-booked rooms. Huge crowds of people in front of the house that needed to be crossed to get inside the building. Music all night long heard all the way to the camp site.

And masks, air filters, hepa filters were not even mentioned. The only mention of masks in the text with an ableist frame as addressed above ("for those who still want to wear masks").

All these things are huge red flags for neurodivergent, disabled and/or chronically ill folks. But apparently only the people who get excluded notice these things. (Hint: Talk to us!)

And 3. To top it all off. The organizers mostly get congratulated for this ableist mess....

One positive thing though. I am sooo so so glad i didn't end up attending, we decided last minute not to go. Okay two things. I am now even more convinced than before that the "anarchist" movement is dead. The future lies in issue-based activism that is more or less based on anarchist principles -> https://kolektiva.social/@antiall3s/110774677280646911

The interesting development for me is to see how many movements have adopted some of the anarchist tools and principles without even calling themselves anarchist, or at least not explicitly. Seen in parts of the ecological movements, land defenders, people defending the homeless, doing abolish cops-prison activism, indigenous and immigrant solidarity, queer/trans issues, disability justice*, BLM and other groups. In Mexico and Chile anarcho-feminist groups are doing inspiring work. A shift towards issue-based activism that is more or less based on anarchist principles, but away from a "movement", that tends to create bubbles of people not even capable of seeing beyond their own nose.

@CrimethInc Such a long text and not a word about poor accessibility and the ableist, and ultimately even eugenicist way the gathering was organized, which prevented many immuno-compromised and chronically ill people from even attending. (the extra food line for mask wearers was a cynical joke. And the way you wrote about it is pure ableism. You wrote: "a special section for people who still want to use masks and maintain social distancing". "Want" is the absolute wrong word here, some of us "must" still wear masks, and if you need to keep "want" in there, we "must" wear them because not enough of you ableist assholes still "want" to wear them in oder to protect and include us).

And in your text there is not a mention of the anarcho-capitalist, conspiracist, right-wing libertarian bullshit that was present at the gathering. (At least one of the main organizers is a right wing libertarian, who was active in the anti-masker protests here).

But read bellow.

I was right to call the anarchist movement dead as a movement. And it has died in Saint-Imier in 2023.

The anarchist movement is dead. As a movement.

And Saint-Imier, where it was born, is where it went to die. In 1872 in Saint-Imier the first anti-authoritarian international was organized. And since then the small village in the Swiss Jura moun
