Today in Labor History February 8, 1962: French National Police opened fire on a large demonstration in the Charonne massacre. Supporters of Algerian liberation and unionists were protesting the OAS, a right-wing paramilitary fighting against Algerian liberation fighters. 9 people died, all members of the CGT union. This came in the wake of the October, 1961 massacre, when French National Police, under orders from Nazi collaborator, Maurice Papon, opened fire on 30,000 supporters of Algerian independence. The French government acknowledged that they killed 50 people. However, some historians believe that 200-300 Algerians died. In 1998, the authorities convicted Papon of Crimes Against Humanity for his collaboration with the Vichy government. During the trial, they established that the 1961 massacre was deliberate. The graffiti in the image reads: Here we drown Algerians.

People & Baby : 20 ans après, l'acharnement continue !
Malgré les victoires des salariées aux prud'hommes (2017) puis en Cour de cassation (2023), qui ont reconnu une discrimination syndicale flagrante, People & Baby s'acharne contre les salariées qui avaient osé s'organiser et se mettre en grève pour défendre leurs conditions de travail et les conditions d'accueil des jeunes enfants.
20 ans après son arrivée "sur le marché", en 2006, l'entreprise continue d'attaquer, de faire appel, de traîner ces salariées devant les tribunaux.
Prochaine étape : le 3 février 2026, audience devant la Cour d'appel de renvoi.
Une stratégie assumée d'usure, destinée à maintenir la pression, empêcher les salariées de tourner la page et prolonger la répression sous couvert de procédures judiciaires.
Alors que les scandales de la petite enfance sont désormais exposés publiquement, que les rapports s'accumulent et que même des ouvrages grand public dressent le constat d'un secteur où les dysfonctionnements sont systémiques, les premières lanceuses d'alerte restent celles que l'on continue à poursuivre : des femmes travailleuses, syndiquées, qui ont parlé trop tôt, trop fort, et qu'on n'a jamais voulu écouter.
L'entreprise tente aujourd'hui de se refaire une image en mettant en avant un changement de direction avec le départ de Christophe Durieux.
Mais tant que People & Baby poursuivra celles qu'elle a discriminées, tant qu'elle refusera d'assumer ses responsabilités, le vernis de communication ne trompera personne.
Nous le réaffirmons clairement : ces procédures ne sont pas de simples contentieux. Elles sont une répression syndicale prolongée, une manière de faire durer la punition infligée à des salariées qui ont osé s'organiser, se syndiquer, lutter.
Vingt ans après, nous sommes toujours là.
Contre la répression, Contre le patriarcat, Contre la privatisation de la petite enfance !
