Levoglucosan, a molecular tracer traditionally used to measure fine particulate matter (PM2.5) emissions from biomass burning, degrades chemically in the atmosphere significantly faster than previously assumed. Up to 88 percent of the compound is lost to volatilization and atmospheric degradation before it can be measured.

Talk 2 coming up at #x2026 on #teaching #AnalyticalChemistry. I will highlight my use of #Perusall for pre-reading and formative quizzes with #myDalite before students come to class. The goal is the help them to be familiar with terminology, having revised prerequisite knowledge and new concepts to be discussed. #learning #academia #science

@timmc This is probably the point where you should consult someone who actually works in #analyticalChemistry and environmental sample analysis. Maybe XRF is not the best route here? If building a small lab and taking the samples to said lab would be an option, a whole list of other instruments and techniques are available. IDK how much an atomic absorption spectrometer goes for these days, maybe that's an option. 1/2
