Yes, because for heat exchange you need to aboid laminar flow and encourage turbulent flow to prevent border layers and maximize the Δt [in °C] between intake and exhaust flow and thus increasing the heat efficiency.

  • Given the limitations of a finite-sized heatsink that needs to fit into an ATX case with a finite-sized CPU heatspreader and finite-sized heatpipes, #Noctua's NH-P1 basically is peak efficiency for a passive, fanless heatsink.

  • OFC when you have a forced, turbulent airflow you can go way closer in terms of fin stack, as you can see with the NH-D15.

As for @N33R's original #shitpost: That "improved" design can't be realidtically manufactured and most mono-material #PassiveCooling heatsinks for electronics like amplifiers also rely on the thermal mass of the heatsink to carry away heat.

  • #Yamaha for example in their #amplifiers and stereo systems did optimize passive heat transfer by having widely spaced, mounted-on sheetmetal fins that attached to a big aluminium heatsink with vertical fins to increase heat transfer surface area

  • In some models these did literally fill out most of the chassis volume and could thus generste quite a "chimney effect", mandating ventilation openings on the sides and top to be kept clear.

@Linzington YEAH!

Hats off - I hope Victory Amps makes this a regular product, as there are many blind musicians that would love accessible instruments.

  • Espechally since the only change they had to do was custom plates with braille on (and get said braille letter)...

Seriously, other instrument and electronics firms shoud do the same, cuz there's no valid reason to not offer this. If they localize the plates, they could easily do braille...

@WiteWulf

I have a relative who seems to think so.

But there is a fairly huge second-hand market for separates. People are still dumping 20th and early 21st century kit.

When I was looking around a few months ago from having spoken to the relative, there were also available 2nd hand a lot of vastly overfeatured things like "recievers" that had inputs for HDMI, TOSLink, composite video, component video, RCA audio, VGA, USB, and Ethernet.

#Bluetooth is a common lack in such older kit. But the relative would find bluetooth fairly fiddly, so I wasn't taking it into consideration myself. On the other hand, there are lots of convert-XYZ-to-bluetooth-headphones boxes Out There.

On the gripping hand, today's mega-tellies do a lot of this stuff. I need to persuade the relative that xe doesn't actually need to duplicate what xyr existing mega-telly already does. No need for a "tuner" any more. Classic FM is right there on cable. (-:
