"I have to admit a soft spot for eight-minute-long tracks with four-minute-long, mantric, patiently building freak-folk instrumental introductions"

Jana Pochop - Powerlines
"Powerlines is a haunting tapestry of indie-folk-pop that maps the distance between Brooklyn’s urban pulse and the expansive New Mexican sky, featuring reverbs recorded inside Georgia O’Keeffe’s Abiquiu studio."
Yaelokre
Melkweg, Thursday, October 8 at 07:00 PM GMT+2
After a massively sold-out show in 2025, Yaelokre is returning to Melkweg this year!
Yaelokre is the creative project of Keath Ósk, a Filipino-Icelandic artist who combines music, art, and storytelling. Their work blends gentle folk sounds with surreal ideas and pop elements, resulting in a unique and imaginative style.
The songs take place in a fictional world named Meadowlark, where four child characters explore themes such as nature, emotion, and personal growth. This project is inspired by the artist's own life, with each character representing different phases of their childhood and important life lessons.
Bill Callahan
Melkweg, Saturday, October 10 at 07:00 PM GMT+2
Bill Callahan, who spent years building his own universe under the name Smog, is considered one of the most distinctive voices in alternative folk. During his Smog years, he developed a writing style that was dry, sharp, and disarming all at once: lyrics that could evoke an entire world with minimal means. That approach still forms the core of his work. On Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest he focuses on small, domestic moments, while Gold Record feels like a series of observations from someone who watches the world with quiet attention.
What sets Callahan apart is his ability to articulate the everyday without romanticizing it. His language remains clear and precise, leaving room for suggestion and humor. He writes songs that don’t steer but invite: a quality already visible in his Smog period and one that has only grown more refined since.
His recent work shows how faithful he has remained to that calm, attentive way of writing. The power lies in the phrasing, not the gesture, and it’s precisely for that reason that his songs continue to resonate long after they end.
"a rhythmic, hypnotic guitar refrain that sucks you in from the off, regular, menacing psyche guitar riffs that punch through the gloom and ratchet up the tension"

"It's a disarming & charming, lopsided folk listen from an amiable-sounding bunch, & if you're in need of some relatable, quietly kooky music company, then knock on their studio door."
