Labor made plenty of promises at the last election. Did they deliver?

Another election brings another round of promises from politicians trying to win votes, but how many did the last government keep? It’s likely more than you think.

point 5 in Ribert Reich’s list gave me pause:

<Five: Centralize your power by destroying the civil service.>

neo-liberalism has destroyed the public service in many western countries, and i’m particularly disappointed by #ALP failure to fix australian departments like sennalink

public service has an undeservedly bad reputation for many reasons… but are essential to democracy;

government employees, as opposed to contractors, usually have deep and functional knowledge of how our parliaments decisions were meant to work, and a solid public service provides continuity of administration of basic/essential functions, despite election turmoil

Labor won Boothby for the first time in 73 years — can it hold it?
By Leah MacLennan

Until the last election, the electorate of Boothby hadn't been in the hands of a Labor candidate since 1949 — but the ALP's Louise Miller-Frost broke that streak by winning the seat, and is now taking another tilt.

Hallo #FediLZ, wer ist auch auf dem #Medienkompetenztag des @br in München?
Das Team der #Medienabteilung vom @isb_bayern mit @mebis_bayern ist auch da!
#medienbildung und das Team von der #ALP #Dillingen ist auch dabei 😄
@imeks

Dear Tony Lupton and Michael Danby. I see that you'd like Josh Burns anfrom the #ALP to win #Macnamara.
OK. (I'd prefer the #Greens to win it, but ... whatevs).
I see you're really worried that the preferences might edge Josh out, and that you want people to vote "1. ALP ..." rather than "1. Green, 2.ALP"

I see your problem. But really, sidling up to Advance ain't the way to go. I'll give you a hint: how has sidling up to NewsCorp gone? It isn't good, is it? They have no friends for a reason. You are not their friend. They are not yours.

Here is my
Home Remedy for the
Prevention of Greens Votes:
1. Act on #climate.
2. Help #refugees and the poor.
3. Do something to protect #nature.

You don't need to go full on dictatorship-of-the-proletariat. Do those three (actually, for many Greens voters, just the top one would do) and Josh keeps his seat. No wukkas.

So simple. Not a biggie, not difficult, definitely not 3D Chess. Put the sock puppets away you bloody gooses.

From Laura Tingle: this week has been an assessment of basic competence.

In which the #ALP shows it can perform actual governance alongside campaigning for reelection, while the #Libs demonstrate incompetence at both. Independent candidates, please take note.

I wonder for how long the media #DistractionMachine can effectively obscure this?
