Day 24/25 of #almost70degreesnorth

Trip home with #interrail from #Oslo via #Gothenborg #Copenhagen and #hamburg

Originally I had booked a journey through #Sweden plus the ill-fated nighttrain to Hamburg. But some train freaks made me think again and I couldn't afford to miss my connection in Hamburg early Monday morning.
So I left Oslo some hours earlier and took the train to Gothenburg. There was a bit chaos as people didn't know which replacement bus to take. I made a quick decision and it was the right one. So I caught the earlier train to Copenhagen, where time to rest a bit (well, I sat in a station café, drank coffee and ate sweet stuff). Once again the ride in the old train to Hamburg was quite fun as I ended with very interesting people in the compartment.
The night in Hamburg was spent in a hotel near the station and the ride home went quite smooth. After some train chaos in Sweden during the trip, one has to admit that DB isn't that bad after all.

Anyway my melancholic trip to #Tromsø 25 years after my #Erasmus year in the Arctics has come to an end. With the exception of one flight (SJ to blame) the whole trip was done with public transport on the ground. Surely doable, but you need time and should be flexible with your plans.

Day 23 of #almost70degreesnorth

Final day in #Oslo was a wet one. I nevertheless went as planned to #Ekebergsletta #parkrun - I chose this parkrun as it was the smallest in the city and from my experience smaller parkruns are often more social. There was a big one near my hotel, but I took the bus to the hill to participate. Well, it was basically a swimming contest and we had to use the "winter" route because of it. I wrote a little run report after the parkrun:

After some quality time in the parkrun cafe and a long, hot shower. I went to city to the city for a final time and bought some books in Norwegian.
I have to admit I enjoyed Oslo this time; while it was never a pleasure to be there on business in my "old life".

Day 22 of #almost70degreesnorth

Great #hiking tour starting in #Kjelsås which can be easily reached by public transport from Central #Oslo - I passed Sognsvann (where you can take the underground to) and several huts that served local snacks. The last part of the hike was not that thrilling (up a skislope), but you can experiment with other routes.

Day 21 of #almost70degreesnorth

Visit of the #NationalMuseum of #Norway in #Oslo - Originally I had planned to visit three museums on this day, but National Museum totally blew me away and I spent the whole day there. If you only visit the #Munch room there, you are going to miss a lot first class content.
On the evening I went for a run along the #Oslofjord and had a rare warm dinner.

Day 20 of #almost70degreesnorth

#Train ride from #Røros to #Oslo via #Hamar - a very scenic route along #Glomma, many probably never take. Train also not as crowded as the more touristic main routes further West.

In Oslo a quite hard run up the #Akerselva after check-in. The river itself is quite underwhelming, but much to discover nearby if you open your eyes.
Hotelchoice in #Grønland was made due to be near the station and it was a decent one. Only problem was a bar nearby with madly loud music at night.

Day 19 of #almost70degreesnorth

Felt better this day, but weather was not that good. So I decided to settle for a compromise and do a short hike only. I started at #Røros and went via Vardhøgda to Fjellkirka/Enarsvola on my last full day in town. A quite lonely hike with some nice views.

As credit card was working again, I treated myself to some sweet delights at a local bakery.

Day 18 of #almost70degreesnorth

Just an easy walk Southeast of #Røros due to feeling weak because of a cold. Still some nice views and riverscene vibes.
When coming back from the walk there was quite a scare as creditcards didn't work and banks wouldn't exchange EUR for NOK. After some hours I thankfully got lucky at an ATM and could buy something. So far I hadn't used catch at all since leaving Hamburg. Quite affordable housing in the area btw.

Evening in bed watching Norwegian Cup football.

Day 17 of #almost70degreesnorth

Due to very bad weather forecast I skipped the planned trip to #Bergen (a city I know very well from before) and after a tip on #Mastodon I opted for a stay at #Røros a place I visited only once on business in winter before.

The #train ride from #Trondheim was smooth and offered great views of the #Glomma valley. I also have to say my stay in Trondheim was a very positive one, and should I relocate the city is a front runner.

In Røros I got a very good deal at Vertshuset and it was probably the most comfy room I stayed at during the trip. Even if I felt a bit under the weather, I went for a first exploration #run and got eventually a bit lost.
