Made it to the allotment today to put the first plants in the ground. The sun was warm, the birds were chirping happily away, and the time passed peacefully. I even got to harvest some sage and the first 500g of rhubarb for tomorrow's dinner.

I'm thinking that the solitary sunflower seedling has taken well to it's new surroundings 🌱🌻 #allotmentgardening #allotment #gardening #sunflower | #kent #england
From a couple of evenings ago, on a very brief visit to the allotment. Before and after watering the seedbed. The leeks are showing well, but the carrots need another week or so 🤞 #allotmentgardening #allotment #gardening #vegetables | #kent #england
While I'm in a call about the horrors of adult abuse, here is a photo of a really big earthworm. I have pretty small feet but this guy was somewhere in the 30-40cm range.

How my friend's little allotment looked as I left it yesterday evening. I even managed to finally take down last year's runner bean poles - something I've been meaning to do for ages 🙂 #allotmentgardening #allotment #gardening | #kent #england
From yesterday proper. My octogenarian neighbour had allowed some potatoes to "go over", but they were fine I thought to use as seed potatoes. I know this isn't the best of ideas (they might not be best suited to our climate), but I'm really only taking a relaxed approach, and what grows, grows.. 🙂 #allotmentgardening #allotment #gardening #potatoes | #kent #england

Finally finished weeding the raised bed and it felt good. Then I started laying out the paths I'd decided on and realised that the bed was actually 120cm (4ft) longer than I was told. This is excellent news, obviously, but now the plan needs a little revision.

I noticed on Saturday that something had nibbled the sunflower seedling, so this evening I brought down a bottle-top "cloche" from home. This and a bucket of old compost. I didn't stay long due to the rain 🙂 #allotmentgardening #allotments | #kent #england
Twelve seconds of the gentle rain this evening at the allotments. We really need more, as it only lasted a few hours, and it's the first we've had this month 😔 #allotmentgardening #allotments #gardening | #kent #england
My friend's little allotment was looking much as I had left it on Tuesday (So much for my visiting everyday, eh?! 😊). On first looks I didn't think the leeks I sowed (23/04/26) were showing yet, but on closer inspection.. 🙌 #allotmentgardening #allotments #gardening #vegetables #leeks #kent #england
