“Sono dispiaciutissimo per la finale, scusatemi. Oggi non era la mia miglior giornata“. È cominciato così il discorso in mezzo al campo di Alexander Zverev, uscito sconfitto dalla finale di Madrid con il punteggio di 6-1, 6-2 contro Jannik Sinner. Una finale in cui il tedesco sembrava non esser nemmeno sceso in campo. Merito anche dello strapotere fisico e tecnico di Sinner, a cui poi Zverev si è rivolto con grande onestà e parole forti: “Congratulazioni a Jannik, è di gran lunga il migliore del mondo in questo momento. Non c’è chance per quasi nessuno di noi”. Infine anche un pensiero per il team del numero uno al mondo, con la solita ironia: “State facendo un gran lavoro, ma magari al Roland Garros concedetevi una pausa”, ha dichiarato Zverev scherzando.
Successivamente anche Sinner si è congratulato con il suo avversario: “Prima di tutto, Sascha, è stata per te una gran settimana, so che oggi non è stata la tua miglior giornata. Ora ti auguro il meglio per il futuro”. Poi gli immancabili ringraziamenti al team: “Grazie al mio team per spingermi e credere in me, stiamo facendo qualcosa di incredibile. Arrivare qui è stata una bellissima sensazione, grazie anche al pubblico per tutto il torneo. L’anno prossimo cercherò di parlarvi in spagnolo”, ha poi promesso Sinner prima di ricevere la coppa e alzarla al cielo.
Precedentemente l’azzurro aveva già parlato in campo pochi attimi dopo la fine del match: “È difficile da spiegare. Ho cominciato molto bene la partita dopo il break, non credo che Zverev abbia giocato il suo miglior tennis e io ne ho approfittato. Sono soddisfatto del mio livello, un titolo come questo vuol dire tanto per me. È una vittoria incredibile. Cinque Masters 1000 consecutivi? C’è molto lavoro, impegno e dedizione ogni giorno. Sono risultati che vogliono dire tanto per me e sono contento di continuare a credere in me stesso ogni giorno e in ogni allenamento. Si parla di me, ma si deve parlare anche del team”, così Sinner ha commentato l’incredibile vittoria a Madrid contro Zverev in finale.
