Nach langem Zögern hat sich Christian an Alien: Covenant gewagt. Christian: Unter all den nihilistischen und negativen Filmen, die ich kenne, ist Alien: Covenant ein Film von besonderer Boshaftigkeit. Hatten wir im Vorgängerfilm Prometheus noch alle unsere Hoffnungen in die sympathische Figur der Elizabeth Shaw gelegt, so werden wir in Covenant mit der bitteren Realität konfrontiert, dass die Bemühungen der Wissenschaftlerin vergeblich waren. Am Ende von Prometheus war sie noch hoffnungsvoll durchgestartet, um die Konstrukteure zu finden, in denen sie den Ursprung der Menschheit vermutet hatte; in Covenant erfahren wir, wie ihre Suche ins Leere lief: Der Androide David setzte unter den Konstrukteuren das Alien-Virus frei und zerstört die Existenz der Konstrukteure noch vor dem ersten Kontakt, danach benutzt er Elizabeth Shaw, um an ihr Experimente durchzuführen. Im Internet finden sich Interviews der Elizabeth-Shaw-Darstellerin Noomi Rapace, in denen sie erzählt, wie sie sich darauf freue, dass Ridley Scott mit ihr einen zweiten Teil drehen wird. The last couple days I've been re-reading #alandeanfoster's 'A Call to Arms,' one of the #books that inspired the 'Humanity fuck yeah' or HFY sub-genre.
The premise: one alien federation is trying to fight off the inexorable advance of another, whose philosophy is to absorb all other species/cultures into its nebulous Purpose. The defending federation IDs humanity as a prospective ally, as it turns out we're stronger and psychologically suited to warfare vs any of their members. #books #scifi
LeRoy MillerPicked up a flat of Star Trek Books from a local auction the other day, Really only because I needed Star Trek Log Two to complete my "Log" collection from Alan Dean Foster, but also needed Star Trek 3 from James Blish
Most of these are TOS/Movie Era books, most in good or better condition - but you can really tell which ones have been read/re-read.
There are 25 books, that I picked up for $10.00 so not too bad of a deal.
