Happy World Turtle Day Fediverse! Here is a green sea turtle (and it's fish buddies) snacking on some sea grass. The water was kind of turbid so apologies for the overly 'white' exposure here. These beautiful creatures are endangered because of how we humans treat the ocean. Let's hope today can raise awareness and help us all do better.

Reposting for World Bee Day today! -- Meet the Melipona Bee or Mayan Stingless Bee (Melipona beecheii). They are native to the Yucatan Peninsula and Costa Rica. They have been kept for centuries by the Mayan people and their honey is prized not only for it's full-bodied citrus flavor but also for having many health benefits including anti-inflammatory and anti-septic properties. A colony of these bees only produces 2 liters of honey (compared to over 40l per year for most 'honey bees'). Thank you so much to Caesar at Akumal Natura Rescue for sharing his knowledge and passion for these creatures with our group.
